Hiroko's Place

Posted by EatSomeSweets on Tuesday, July 12, 2011,
As an adventurous dessert eater and lover of Green Tea Ice Cream, Hiroko's Place did not let me down. They are known as a Japanese cafe, serving comfort food. What many may not know is that their parfait aka sundae is quite tasty and very fresh and dare I say it better than an American Sundae. This is mostly because the Parfait at Hiroko's place has lots of fresh fruit. Sure, its served in a traditional parfait glass, but it stops there. Instead of lots of fudge and whipped cream you are bles...

Grandaisy Bakery

Posted by EatSomeSweets on Tuesday, May 31, 2011,
Behind the mysterious glass blocks lives a little slice of baked goodness. For some reason it is not listed on their website. It is almond; soft, sweet and dense. It resembles an almond pound cake, may even weigh a pound. However, it is quite light tasting. Grandaisy Bakery is known for their bread to many, but their desserts are something you'll be talking about.

Little Cupcake Bake Shop

Posted by EatSomeSweets on Sunday, March 6, 2011,
Okay ladies and gents the Little Cupcake Bake Shop in Soho is something of a gem. At any one given time there are over 12 different cakes to choose from and they're fresh. How they manage to do this is beyond me!? The gem is not just the amount of cakes, but the variety.  For example, they have a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich cake and yes it tastes like the sandwich on white bread! Ah YUM!  With variety on the mind, their cakes are just like grandma used to make. Not mine, but someone else...

Harney and Sons Fine Teas

Posted by EatSomeSweets on Wednesday, January 26, 2011,
Harney and Sons Teas is not exactly the first place you'd think to find some great sweets, but they're there! Perhaps you've heard of Green Tea ice cream, perhaps you haven't. It exists and at Harney they also make Earl Grey and Chai ice cream. It's too bad they don't serve it in pints. If ice cream doesn't tickle your fancy then maybe a nice rich chocolate brownie will! After you inhale the brownie, you'll forget it was gluten free. They special order them from tu-lu's gluten-free bakery.

WOW! PapaBubble should have air vents leading to the streets so you can smell the fresh candy inside. If you are lucky enough you can walk in while they are actually making the candy. Once Upon a Tart

Posted by EatSomeSweets on Tuesday, November 30, 2010,
Once Upon a Time there was a young man who walked past a bakery unlike no other. He walked past and said to himself, "Self, you will go back to that bakery soon." Well, time has passed and the young man, who is not so young anymore finally went to the bakery. He has since coined them Wonderland of Tarts. He learned an important lesson. Once Upon a Tart has the most delicious tarts, a Chocolate Pear Tart to be exact. Do not be like this young man, learn from his lesson and never pass Once Upon...

Balthazar Bakery

Posted by EatSomeSweets on Sunday, September 19, 2010,
Balthazar Restaurant and their Bakery share the same address, the entrance to the bakery is just west of the restaurant. Many flock to the bakery for their fresh sweets and croissants. In fact, their croissants are so good they make them for second party retail locations. Why? Because their croissants are one of the better croissants in the city.

Oro Bakery and Bar

Posted by EatSomeSweets on Thursday, August 26, 2010,
The best part about Oro is their brownies. They are baked individually, which means you get a soft chocolate brownie on the inside with a delicious crunch on all four corners. The brownies would please a cake brownie lover and a fudgy brownie lover. Who would have thought this, but their Almond Croissants are to-dye-fah.
